These last couple days have been a blast. It is the last week before Christmas break (TWO weeks) and we did a lot of fun things, but I would like to share two of my favorites, shrinky-dinks and making crystals. First, I will tell you about the shrinky-dinks. Shrinky-dinks are drawings made on plastic and then, after you draw on it you put it in the oven and they shrink! WEll thats what we did.Dr.Adams, our old principle came and did shrinky-dinks with the whole 5th grade. It was really fun. I got to sit by my BFF in Mrs.Dejong's class. I drew a puppy with a toy and paw prints and it is so cute. Now I am going to tell you about making the crystals. My whole class made borax crystals. It was really fun. we made stars and even though it took a long time, it was worth it. If you want to do this, you need to follow the directions I had to and get these things to make it - Wide-mouth glass jar, Borax (available in detergent aisle), string, hot water, pencil or straw, scissors, tablespoon and adult assistance. First, we had to get pipe cleaners, cut them, and shape them into a star. Then, we hung them on a string and attatched the string to a straw that would go over a cup later. Finally, we got our jar and filled it with really hot water. Then, we dumped 3 tablespoons of borax into the hot water and stired it. We whated 24 hours.... and poof, it was a crystal. It was really fun and I hope I have a chance to do it again. Here is my crystal and shrinky-dink.
